MCDONOUGH, Ga. - (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old boy was shot after he grabbed a probation officer's gun and shot her during a transport in suburban Atlanta.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate Wednesday's incident.
The GBI said in a news release that the teen was handcuffed in the back seat when he managed to grab the steering wheel and the gun of the officer who was driving. The teen fired one shot, hitting the officer in the hand. A probation officer in the backseat fired and struck the minor.
The teen was being taken to the Martha Glaze Regional Youth Detention Center in Henry County.
The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital. The teen remains hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition has not been released.
